Our customer was stopped at a traffic light waiting to make a left turn. When the light changed they proceeded into the turn, and an E-bike blew through the signal from the opposite side and ran into their front fender. Our customer pulled over to assess the situation, but the two boys on the bike insisted they were fine and left the scene. Believing the boys were unhurt, our customer continued on their way — until they noticed the boys following them. Our customer pulled over a second time, but now the boys had changed their story, claimed they were injured, and said they had phoned the police to report a hit-and-run.

When the police report arrived several weeks later, our customer was found at fault for striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene of an accident. The twist: a homeowner near the intersection had a recording of the entire incident. The footage shows the boys running the signal, our insured stopping to help, a lengthy attempt to exchange information, and the boys shaking their heads no — and it shows that the boys were the ones who ultimately left the scene. Imagine the financial devastation avoided simply because the truth was on tape.
